Too Long on the Island, Letters to the Editor Dear Captain Deep, I wanted to write to you and express my thanks to Maui County for putting up the shark warning signs at Olowalu Beach Park on Maui. I know that you are very busy, but I knew that if I wrote to you, a Lahaina figurehead as yourself would be able to express all of our thanks to the Maui County and State of Hawaii fathers. The shark signs have definitely affected the lives of myself and my family. I'm sure every dime of the tax payers money was well spent. While on a family outing to Olowalu Beach park in August, myself, my wife and nine small children were snorkeling about one hundred feet off the beach. I went back to shore to get another pint of rum (Captain Morgan's of course) and my underwater camera when I noticed the shark warning signs. A red flag went up in my mind that there might be sharks in the ocean. I immediately turned to the ocean and in a full on panic began calling my family out of the water. As they made their way towards shore the sharks attacked. It was a well laid plan and they struck with the swiftness of a bullet. I did manage to snap a couple of pictures. Thanks to the my awareness of sharks brought on by the shark warning signs I was able to save my family except for little Billy who sustained minor injuries. Once again special thanks to you Deep and the State of Hawaii. Sincerely, All of us associated with the news media Need to e-mail Deep with some feed back?
