Old News 6/7/03: Well it's Saturday and I'm over the ocean again. It was a seriously great night at Margaritaville on Thursday. Thanks to all of the pirateheads that came out to see me! Special thanks to Bonnie and Jay (all the way from Phoenix), Charlie Tuna, John Lloyd, the Orange County Parrothead club, and the rest of you who showed up. I love playing on the mainland because you always make it a point to go for the gusto while I'm there! We've got some more pictures that will be up soon. Also we finally got a decent photo program and will be putting up our pictures from everything since the Las Vegas show in a couple of new galleries on the photo page. For the time being, I'll be pushing the promotions for the shows in Tomahawk Wisconsin at the end of this month. If you live anywhere near there, it should be a heck of a party for those couple of days. (I hear those wisconsin folks can drink a bit). Hope to see you there! 5/30/03: Margaritaville! Margaritaville! Margaritaville! This coming Thursday I'll be in Newport Beach Ca from 8-11. This should be a whole hell of a lot of fun. I've been wasting away in Margaritaville for the last 7 years and I'm now playing there! There's going to be quite the crowd (apparently). There's no cover that I'm aware of and there's going to be Captain Morgan Specials. All night long! I should be able to get a bunch of stories out of that night. My new newsletter should be here in a couple of days (Waiting on Capt. Deep again). Also thanks to those of you who sent pictures of the Las Vegas trip. I'm having issues with my photo program but those pics will be up as soon as I get everything unscrewed! We also need more entries for the Pirate Girl contest so keep them coming! I finally got all my new shirts up on the t-shirt page. I only have a couple of each so if you want one get it now. 5/12/03: I know you're dying to know about the results. Well it's now Monday night and the weekend is over. No one got robbed. No one danced with Jimmy Buffett. I didn't lose more money than I made. But what a weekend! Hoooo! Well I arrived in CA with no stories to speak of. Sat. night was the "Beck Island Party" and before we got there I must admit I was a tad nervous (I'm nervous before every gig). Greg and Dawn (what great hosts) had put together one hell of a party. A beautiful house in a beautiful neighborhood with a killer backyard (not to mention that big ass volcano vegetable thing). (Next time Greg, I want a chicken wing volcano with hot sauce lava!). The pics from the party will be on my Photo page in a day or two. Sunday found us back in santa cruz at the Ideal bar and Grill for Mother's Day. It was a fun afternoon but I had to keep it clean for all the moms! 5/09/03: I'm writing this one from about 30,000 feet above the pacific ocean on my way to CA to come up with a story for another newsletter. Now, I'll tell you the plan as it is right now. I'm supposed to play at the beck island party tomorrow. In theory, I'll land in about an hour and a half, drive home, go to sleep and play tomorrow afternoon for a huge crowd with a bright sun; all while selling a bunch of cd's, shirts, and pissin' off the local people. On Sunday morning I'll be playing in Santa Cruz for MOTHER'S DAY (Yes, I now what you're thinking). Come on out and join me! And one more time... 5/03/03: The new newsletter is posted on the site read it now and find out what really happened in Vegas. Once again, if you have pictures from the Las Vegas shows, send em on over. We're also having a "Top Ten Reasons why Girls make better Pirates than Boys" contest. The top 10 winners will receive a free shirt with their answer on the back of our new girls pirate tees To learn more about it click Contest 5/02/03: Ok a couple more things... Just got the new column done and it will definitely be up online by this afternoon. I said that before but this time I reaaaally mean it. More importantly, I will be playing Santa Cruz on Mother's day May 11th at the Ideal bar and Grill from 1-4 pm! It's an early one so I don't know how this is going to work for those who know me. (eg. It's mother's day so here's a song about your momma...). There will most likely be some great food specials there and I know there will be some great music! So bring down your mom! I will be playing in the outside Tiki bar if the weather is nice, so hope for good weather! Of course I'll be in Sacramento on that Saturday for a private Tiki party. Click here to find out how to book your own private Tiki party. My new computer is coming today so there will be a bunch of upgrades to this site this weekend. I'm still looking for more pictures from the Las Vegas show so send them out and you'll be up on the site! 4/29/03: Home sweet home at last! And boy is there a lot of news this month. We just returned from Las Vegas yesterday after a fun but grueling week. My computer is now fixed and up and running so the updates will be coming more often. (Seems like I'm always saying that eh?). Let's get down to the play by play... For starters, how about the Pirate Girl doing the Hula up there with ole' Jimmy Buffett! I didn't even know you could Hula to Why Don't we get Drunk ... but she sure as hell did. (Much to the surprise of our friends a few rows back) We knew those Hula lessons would pay off! Starting from our drive from hell, to hanging with Sunny Jim, to getting robbed, it was a weekend we won't forget. And it's the subject of this months "As the Anchor Drags" newsletter. It should be ready Wednesday afternoon. We have sooo much to put in I don't know where to start. Speaking of getting robbed, if anyone has any pictures of me from that weekend, (our cameras were stolen along with the pics of me with Sunny Jim, Mike Utley, Robert Greenidge, and Tommy Rocker), please e-mail them to Tatiana at pirategirl@thewhaleshark.com so we can put together a gallery of that weekend 4/10/03: If you missed me, I'm baaaaack! Aloha everybody, the new record is here and finally available! It was an incredible pain in the ass from beginning to end but it's here now and you can buy as many as you want! Hell, buy all of them if you want to, I'll make more. So don't waste any time, click here or on the cd cover! My computer is bustified right now so the newsletter will be updated in a couple of days! It's going to be a good one this month... 4/8/03: I just got back from CA and the first leg of the Party Like a Pirate Tour is underway. It started in Santa Cruz at the Ideal bar and grill on Friday and a bunch of my friends showed up to kick it off right. Some of you rang up $200 + bar tabs drinking $17 "3 shot stories" while some of the ladies seem to have gotten themselves thrown out pretty early. (To those ladies; Sorry about that, I had no idea. Get in touch so we can book something at that ranch). There were people getting so hammered, that they fell down right at the bar. There were apparently a couple of people who thought the cds were free (don't get me started). They danced and most especially, sang along to all the words to "Tales". And then there was Eddie... Quite a bit different than my Lahaina nights. Day #2 We arrived in Modesto CA. That's right Modesto. We didn't know what to expect and were a tad nervous when we walked into Minnies (they don't believe in a lot of lighting at the bar). However, it was nothing but fun from there on. It started with the entire crowd at the bar yelling "The Whaleshark's here!" and we were then treated to some of the best hospitality (thanks Peter and the rest of the crew) that I've seen in a long while! It was very much appreciated. In an hour the place was full of Jimmy B/Whaleshark fans who were so much fun and danced so much that I thought the floor was going to fall through. I'm not kidding. Those of you who were there know what that floor was doing. Everyone wound up missing their shoes. Some people got flashed (note to self: write a song about flashing). Some people fell down on their bosses wives. Some people partied 'till they puked. Some got in fights later (I have no idea what that was about). But mostly everyone had a blast. Now that I think about it, I hope they have us back. If you have any good / funny pictures from those nights send them or e-mail them to me and I'll get them up on my site. Leg #2 of the PLAPTour... LAS VEGAS! Next weekend Jimmy Buffett comes to Vegas at the MGM. Friday night is the now famous "Last man standing" party at Tommy Rocker's. The party is officially starting @ 6:00 pm and I just confirmed that I'll be playing from 4:00pm to at least 6:00pm depending on the crowd. (So go ahead and buy the new record so you'll know all the words by then). There are going to be some great bands after I'm finished that you're not going to want to miss (trust me). Hope to see you there! 03/24/03: Boy did you all miss a hell of a week. Tommy Rocker flew out to Maui this week and had himself a couple of doozies! Supported by a crowd of his hard drinking loyal fans, (16 Kamikazes ring any bells?) Tommy was seen with Gail Swanson on St Patty's Day jamming up on the top of the Bar at Henry's Bar in Kihei. Trying to tone it down this last Thursday, Tommy made a two hour appearance at the Whale's Tale and brought many of the same people in. I followed him from 6-9 and let me be the first to say it was a challenge following that act! "Ever kissed a parakeet? No? Bet you've kissed a cockatoo!" What a blast! I'm expecting the pictures anytime now. Well it's only about a week and a half until the Santa Cruz / Modesto shows! I did just find out today that the cd's will be finished by the end of the week! I should have them by mid next week!!! It looks like this whole tour is going along as planned. I may be in Wisconsin for the June Jimmy Buffett show in East Troy. If so I'll be there for a couple of days before playing in the Wisconsin area. Got a parrotthead club? Somewhere cool to play? Let me know. Keep an eye out for me in your town. And if you have a cool town (even a crappy town that needs a pirate party!) let me know. I just may show up! Aloha! 03/05/03: Ok Ok the locations are set and you can start your planning! I will be at the Ideal bar and Grill on the Santa Cruz wharf April 4th 9-1am like I said before. I'm going to need to get a good crowd in there so make sure you can make it! The following day I'll be playing at Minnies in Modesto Ca (we're still working on the time). Why Modesto? There's some crazy Jimmy Buffett/ Whaleshark fans out there and that'll be a lot of fun. And of course, I'll be at Tommy Rocker's in Las Vegas April 25th for happy hour. There'll be a couple of bands playing after I'm finished. That'll be a hell of a blast. I sound like a broken record but my new damn record is reaaaaalllly almost finished and I'm not going to mention it anymore until it gets here. Needless to say it's out of my hands and I'm waiting on other people. I need to book a a cool beach type club or a house party with lots of parrottheads somewhere near Los Angeles. Any one with any suggestions please let me know. And I still need a cartoonist! 02/13/03: The Whaleshark is coming to California! April 4th I'll be playing at the Ideal Bar and Grill in Santa Cruz from 9-1. I'll be needing all of you in the area to come on by and bring all your friends! It'll be a lot of fun. I'm also playing the next day in Modesto CA at an as of yet undisclosed location. But I'll be sure to let every one know. And yes the record is still coming! 02/01/03: Well the new newsletter is up and ready, and this month I introduce a great friend and local/world famous musician Trevor Jones. Read all about him and pick up a copy of his Sea Shanties. I've just received confirmation that I'll be playing in Las Vegas at Tommy Rocker's on April 25, the night before the Jimmy Buffett concert. That'll be another Parrothead party you won't want to miss! There'll be more details as April approaches. The artwork is finished for my new CD "And the Stories Get Longer". It won't be that long now. I'll admit after all this time, this final stuff is killing me! How did Captain Deep Banana get his name? Yes the tale is back! Click here If anyone out there fancies him/herself a cartoonist and want to get yourself out there, I could use an official Whaleshark cartoonist. Obviously nautical themes are preferred. This way I can stop ripping other people off! Drop me an e-mail. Any other questions/comments? Let me have it! thewhaleshark@yahoo.com 01/18/03: It is finished!!!! (Well the recording part anyway) Yes, the new Whaleshark cd is almost in your CD player. As of right now it is currently in Minneapolis being mixed and mastered. The art work is being designed and today I'm working on the liner notes. Hopefully by the end of next week it goes to production and viola'! 01/09/03: Here's the progress... We have just finished recording the bass and drum tracks for the CD. We moved out of the first room this morning and are now all set up in my house for round two (the rest of the tracks). The full story will probably be on next month's newsletter. But once again this record's being done Maui style! 01/01/03: Happy New Year everyone! Lot's of news this time, most of which I will probably forget and have to put in later. Tomorrow we start recording the band's part for the as yet unnamed new cd. It's only a matter of time now. So if you have any of those pictures of us make sure you send them to me soon. You may be in the inside cover! There's a show starting on the 5th on the Warner Brother's channel. It's called High School Reunion. It's a reality show that's actually going to be pretty stupid. But I played music for a cruise some of the actors went on. So look for me in that show, I just may make an appearance! I am redesigning my logo right now. You know, the one that's on my shirts. I want to keep the same idea but also want to spice it up a bit. Any aspiring artists out there want to draw something up and send it to me? We're still looking to play on the mainland quite a bit this year to support the new record so club owners / etc let me know if you're interested and we'll talk. My mainland show will focus mostly (if not all-ly) on my original music (most likely some of the offensive live stuff too). Let's hear from you! Want a link to your site? Link me to yours and I'll put you up! Got Surf? Check out my friend Big Wave Dave's killer surf site for videos and pics of Maui's best surf. |
