Old News 07/27/04: Well we're entering the last leg of this summer's tour. Yes, I'm sitting in a kinkos again and again it's somewhere in Michigan. It's cold as hell and raining outside. Doesn't this place have a summer? The live recording finally started working. I had problems (the usual Erik stuff) with just about everything equipment related. We have 4 more shows out here and then it's back home. There will be a some new songs as well as some of the old ones, oh yeah and some of the dirty ones as well! Speaking of home the Whale's tale is officially closed. It will be reopening at an undetermined date as the Front St Bar and Grill. It apparently will now be an upscale place and my future at said place will remain to be seen. We're sending out the package right now and we'll see. As it stands right now it looks like I'll be playing on the cocktail cruise exclusively for a while. Who knows. Anyway, I'll be working on our road stories tonight and will hopefully have them on the site soon.07/06/04: Sitting in a KINKOS somewhere in the middle of Michigan. We still have to run a couple errands drive a bunch of miles and find a campsite (and it's getting dark). Such is life. We had a pretty fun weekend in Middle Bass/ South Bass (Put in Bay) islands. If you've never been to either islands it's pretty amazing that such a place can exist in Ohio. The shows were tied 1 and 1. One great, and one not so great. Like I said before I'll be writing notes from the road in lieu of a Lahaina newsletter. Have to go. Updates are coming soon! 07/02/04: Well we finished a (not so spectacular) show last night after driving 2500+ miles across the US. Didn't catch the Jimmy Buffett show due to lack of sleep. Pirate Girl and I just slept for 14 hours last night to catch up. We're heading out to lake Erie today for two shows on Middle Bass island. Forth of July weekend shows should be absolute mayhem. I finally picked up the last piece of equipment for the recording gear and starting tomorrow, all shows will be recorded. The road has been a blast so far; made some money, spent a ridiculous amount of money! But what can you do? Now that we have a little time and don't have to drive 18 hours a day, look for my first installment of life on the road in the newsletter column in the next few days. If you order any cds or shorts in the next month, it will take a couple of days longer than usual for shipping depending on where we are (don't always have internet access). In the meantime, I only have 4 Travis CDs left until I see him again. Now's the time to order! 06/20/04: Ok so a month went by before I updated. What can I say? Here it goes. LIVE LIVE LIVE!!! The pirategirl and I will be recording all of my shows for the next month and a half on the road! Unlike last years live recording, we will record about a dozen shows and pick the best parts. What does that mean for you? It means show up at one of my shows and clap your asses off! This time the live record will actually be finished. I'm shooting for the beginning of September to have it released! This week... Northern California! The Schedule page is currently updated. And the Las Vegas show at Tommy Rockers has been postponed for a while. For all of you who have inquired about the Whale's Tale, I have the latest updates. There is apparently someone who has put an offer in on the restaurant but rumor has it that it's an extremely flimsy deal at the moment. The realtor's name is Mike. His number is 808-871-1414. From what I know, the asking price is $200,000 for the turn key business. You can see some pics of the Whale's Tale at the bottom of this page from the Jimmy B pre-party. WT is located just across the street from Lahaina harbor on Front St. Finally if any of you are looking for some new original music, you must buy my good friend Travis' latest cd "The Ocean is a Woman". Travis who lives aboard his sailboat Mystery Tramp, is a singer/songwriter/guitar player etc, who shows up at some of my shows and plays harmonica. If you like my cd's, I can guarantee you will like Travis'. Some of you know I don't endorse a lot of people's music. The picture is a bit fuzzy on this screen I know, but I only have a handful (about 8) and I didn't want to open a new one to scan it right. Click on the picture to buy one! And finally, you'll love the next picture. I had so much to drink, I wasn't seeing double, I was double! This picture is actually of me and another Captain in the harbor named English Malcolm. We just happened to be talking at the Whales Tale one evening when Tatiana noticed an uncanny similarity. Malcolm, of course, is the author of the famous statement, "I was so drunk that I took two steps forward, three to the right, and four backwards. So I just turned around and went the other way! 05/16/04: The problem with the recent photo page should be fixed. Apparently you can't name all of the photos 1,2,3 etc. 05/15/04: Well the week is almost over and I just got done a week's worth of flying and driving all over creation (new picture on the photo page) but I'm not done. I'm flying back to Maui for a show tonight, and then back to the mainland on Friday for a show in Santa Cruz California on Saturday night. Saturday night is the Pirate Girl's birthday. We'll be hanging out in Santa Cruz all day at the beach playing some volleyball and generally screwing around. Come down before the show if you want to! The show is from 10-1 (at night Barb). We just booked another week in Northern California and a night in Las Vegas before hitting the Midwest. Check the schedule page to find out when and where! And oh yeah, the Whale's Tale is still for sale! It apparently didn't go into escrow so it's still available. Asking price is $200,000 but there are about $30,000(rough estimate) of repairs needed before the sale can go through. There are more details and I plan on getting the details from the realtor this week sometime. So those of you that were interested before can get back in touch with me. This is your chance to own a piece of Maui! 04/26/04: So the weekend is over and what can I say. It's good to be back on the road again. I'm right back in the saddle (on the plane). I just got the pictures posted from this weekend's shows. The rest are in the photo section. Now it's back to Maui for a show tonight at the Whale's Tale. The 2004 Tour is well underway and we're pretty excited about it. We christened the new Whaleshark mobile (no not in that way) and let me be the first to say that it's a hell of a lot better than that Honda civic. All that leg room. Spending all of last year in either an airplane or the civic has made me appreciate the leg room. I have about 6 feet now! The shows were fun and it was nice to bust out the drunken hula again. We were a tad rusty but you would have never known. I'll be in Maui for a week or so and then it's back up to Northern California. Santa Cruz on the 15th of May! Pirate Girl's Birthday! Yes, somehow we always manage to book something on our birthdays. We'll be at the Ideal bar and grill on the Santa Cruz Wharf from 9-12? I believe. Hope to see you out there! Last but not least, I have a new article posted in the Newsletter section. It's a bit different from most of the stuff I've written and there isn't any collaboration from any other writers this month. I'm going to be looking for some new contributors in the harbor this month. God knows where the hell Capt. Deep Banana went. Every time I see him he has a new excuse. Maybe I should start publishing Deep's excuses! They are almost better than his stories! You may find this hard to believe but it's a bit difficult to find writers behind the helm of a boat in a small island town. 4/22/04: Here's a quick link to the action this weekend. I'll be in El Segundo at the Tavern on Main www.thetavernonmain.com from 9-12pm and again next door down at Anthonys bar and grill the next afternoon. I just found out that there is going to be a lot of Corona specials and the CORONA GIRLS will be there as well!!! See you there! 4/19/04: Well damn! I never thought so many would respond to my note about the Whales Tale! There are apparently quite a few of you who would love a business in the islands. So it'll be easier for me to respond to all of you this way. I just found out that it just went into escrow last week or so. That, my friends, is a complete bummer on many fronts. Rumor has it that it won't even be called the Whales Tale and my future tenure there is at the least a bit sketchy. It will be interesting to see what we (Pirate Girl and myself) wind up doing with the tour this year. Don't worry! We are still hitting the mainland with reckless abandon throughout the summer. What happens after that will remain to be seen. Attention Southern California people! This weekend (April 24th & 25th) we are coming to El Segundo! The exact info is here Schedule We have already received a bunch of RSVPs so it should a seriously fun weekend. Bring friends. (For you old farts the Sunday show is in the afternoon! haha!) 4/11/04: Here's a little news that may get some of you thinking! The Whale's Tale Bar and Grill is for sale! That's right, the place I play every Monday and Thursday is up for sale. Located right on Front St a hundred yards from Lahaina harbor in good ole Lahaina Maui. Imagine, your own bar right here in Maui! And only asking $200,000 (owner's getting old apparently). The Pirate Girl and I are actually looking for investors / partners (we want to run / manage it ideally). Get in touch! I can hear the wheels working... 4/10/04: Well the bookings are rolling in for the 2004 tour. It looks like we'll be out there with our Ohio and Wisconsin parrotheads for the Jimmy Buffett shows in Akron and Alpine Valley in July. Check out the dates and times on the Schedule page to see where we'll be. Live between Ohio and California? Want to throw an awesome party? It's easier than you think. Contact the Pirate Girl Tatiana at pirategirl_productions@yahoo.com and she'll show you how easy it is to get us over to your house! A new news letter is on the way. Some Maui news this time too. 03/23/04: One month and the Party Like a Pirate Tour gets underway! I can't wait. It's been kind of a long winter out here with one tropical storm after another pounding our little island, making it a bit difficult to earn a living on the water. It's a week into spring already, blowing 30 knots and raining. So goes life in Maui! Well The Kaulana cocktail boat is back on the island and back in business sort of. It's been a bit slow for that company to say the least. So like I said I can't wait to hit the road and see everyone again. My play schedule is mostly updated now and in the next 2 days I'll have the rest finished. For now, ATTENTION SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA. Pirate Girl and I will be in El Segundo on April 24-25 for two shows. One late Saturday night at the Tavern on Main bar and one the following afternoon at Anthony's bar and grill. There is a possible show on the 23rd a couple hours north of Los Angeles in Lake Isabella, but I don't have a confirmation. My buddy Travis from Mystery Tramp may be making an appearance for the El Segundo shows to wail on some harmonica. It's the kick off party for the season so we'll need everyone to come on down and help celebrate summer. See my schedule page for details. ATTENTION TEXAS FANS!!! Memorial Day weekend we are trying to get on the bill for a big three day Jimmy Buffett festival. That one isn't confirmed but looking fairly well. Sooooo since we're driving all the way the hell out to Texas we NEED to get a couple more bookings out there. Texas people, do your thing. Private parties or bars, we'll bring Maui out to you. (I understand Texas is reaaaallly big but we'll try anything once. Speaking of Texas... My TEXAS drummer fan. (You know who you are but I forgot). Get in touch with me mui pronto as I may need a percussionist (conga player) if I get that festival booked. More updates tomorrow! 02/24/04: More updates today. Pirate Girl just confirmed today that we'll be in Wisconsin for the Alpine JB pre-shows on July 9th / 10th. So look out frozen tundra, here we come! Anyone want us to come to your town? If you're located anywhere between Ohio and Los Angeles let us know. I mean it. We've got a new Whalesharkmobile for 2004 and we'll go just about anywhere. Finally the newsletter I posted last week now has PG's contributions as well. Check it out. Newsletter 02/16/04: I'm now proof reading my last post for the first time and noticing a bunch of grammatical errors. Both Tatiana and I have this pet peeve with blatant spelling and grammar mistake (especially when we're the ones making the mistakes). So I fixed the ones on my latest adventure and the rest of this months newsletter will be up tomorrow when I get the Pirate Girl's new column on this very subject. And some of you know how I like reporting on prominent shark stories. This month I have the funniest shark attack story out of Australia. I mean even if it was you that it happened to it would be pretty funny. There were no pictures unfortunately. 02/13/04: Ok Ok Ok!!! So I'm a slightly lazy a$$. So it's taken me this long to fill you in about the party! Well Jimmy in Maui, what else can I say. The party was great. Everything (despite my luck) went off without a hitch. Pirate Girl made it home in time, my equipment worked, the bus showed up and left on time, we got the dance permit (don't ask), and every one partied (some a little too much). All in all it was a little mellower show than I've been used to but it IS Maui. Thanks to Lloyd for buying a round for the entire restaurant from Dutch Harbor Alaska. Not that he was just from Alaska, but at the time he was actually IN Alaska! Well done Lloyd! Also thanks to Marcus and Debbie for getting the Pirate Girl and I awesome seats. (Sorry for pouring the beer on Lloyds wife). And of course thanks to Matt and the Modesto/Atwater contingency for their support (See you guys in a couple of months). The concert was great. It was nice to see Jimmy in small place for a change. The only glitch was that I got a nasty phone message from the bus company because apparently people weren't being too sneaky about drinking on the Buffett bus and left all of the empty evidence on board. So that cost me about $100 in cleaning bills. But hey, no one wound up in jail, in the hospital, or in the cemetery so no harm no foul. I'll be putting the pictures up later (send me any good ones). In the meantime you can read the new story from hell that I finally got posted on the newsletter page. Yes the storm story and subsequent nonsense is posted. Check it out. It took some doing but hey... I'm runnin' strictly on Maui time... |
